Liebster Award: I have been nominated!

Hello, hello! If you follow me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook then you may know that I’ve been off on my Nordic adventure which I have mentioned previously here.

Great for me, not so great for OnePennyTourist as I was out and about seeing all kinds of cool cities and beautiful scenery rather than writing on this little old blog I call home.

As I sort out literally thousands of photos (here’s a sneak peek of us approaching Iceland),Approaching the Port of Reykjavik in Iceland on the Disney Magic. OnePennyTourist.comand collect my thoughts on places I visited, plus fight off a silly cold that I also managed to bring back with me (grr), I thought now would be a great time for something light hearted.

A couple of months ago I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Channing over at EchanningI’m so sorry Channing, I know I’m super late with this – time just escaped me.

The Liebster Award is given to new or small bloggers and is a fun excuse to get to know more about the person behind the blog (me!). Plus it’s a chance to share some other new blogs with you from my ‘newbie network’ that you might not otherwise discover.

Time to answer Channing’s 11 Liebster Award questions!

1. How did you decide on the title of your blog and what’s it about?

I wanted to include my name in my blog, luckily I have a name that’s also a regular word so I knew I could play on that. After much experimenting on domain name searches, OnePennyTourist was born. I’m still really chuffed I was able to get it.

2. Can you give 11 random facts about yourself?

Arrgh! Ok, that’s a tough one, haha. Here we go.

  • I have only ever lived at 2 addresses my whole life.
  • I live under a very cool flight path. Whenever there is a celebratory Flyover in London they nearly always fly over my house. The last one happened just this past Friday in commemoration of the Battle of Britain.
  • My favourite food is Chinese – nom!
  • I’ve crossed the Arctic Circle – ticked that one off my list last week on my cruise as we sailed around the north of Iceland.
  • I play World of Warcraft (Resto Shaman – For the Horde!) /geek
  • I am a Dr Who fan and try to watch every episode religiously when it airs. /supergeek
  • My first pet as a child was a invalid budgie (he had a broken wing).
  • I became friends with another Londoner on a Disney forum years ago. When my company relocated one of it’s offices I ended up working in the same building as my Disney pal by total coincidence.
  • I was at Port Canaveral in February 2003 waiting for Space Shuttle Columbia. Unfortunately there was a catastrophic failure during it’s return to Earth and they never made it home. Will never forget the atmosphere at the Space Coast that day.
  • I’m an only child.
  • My favourite poolside cocktail is a BBC – a Bailey’s Banana Colada. Sounds weird but it’s amazing, try it!

3. What is something you’ve been loving lately?

Ok, going to sound a bit cheesy – but it’s blogging. I have only recently started, but I’ve been having tons of fun writing and now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t begin years ago!

4. What is it you love most about blogging?

My blog is giving me a whole new fresh perspective as I write not just for myself but for other people. Not only do I see places I’ve been in a new light, but also I’m really appreciating London more as I was definitely taking it for granted by living here.

5. If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?

When I was a kid I’d play this game in my head and I’d be like ‘Uh, I wish for unlimited wishes, duh!’. Needless to say, if you’re expecting deep, meaningful, altruistic wishes for world peace then you may as well just skip ahead now 😉

  • I wish that I could travel the world
  • I wish I had enough money to be comfortable, but not so much that I stopped appreciating what I have
  • I wish for unlimited wishes

Oh right, yeah, umm…ok, scratch that last one.

  • I wish Butter Pecan ice cream was easier to find in the UK (Seriously)

6. Where does your blog inspiration come from?

I can’t say that my inspiration comes from any one person, place or thing. Who hasn’t looked at someone’s holiday snaps, or admired a photo in a magazine and thought ‘I’d love to go there’? I think daydreaming about nice places when you’re stuck at work or having a bad day is pretty normal – I’ve just taken it one step further and write about it.

7. What is the one country in the world you’d like to visit? And why?

Oooh, well, I’ve been quite lucky to visit the countries I have so far, but I’ve never travelled to the Southern Hemisphere. One day I’d love to visit Australia and New Zealand (Ok, that’s two countries but they’re neighbours and I couldn’t possibly do one without the other).

8. If you have kids or pets, tell me about your babies.

No kids (only us 2 big kids) or pets.

9. A long lost relative leaves you a large sum of money. What do you do with it?

This one should be fairly obvious – I’d travel. I think a nice round the world cruise would be a good place to start and then we’ll go from there…

10. What is something you do when you need to take time for yourself?

Hmm, when I need to chill out then I might read a magazine in complete peace and quiet or as I don’t actually watch a lot of TV, I might catch up on that. I do love me a bit of NCIS!

11. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I’ve never really been a person who thinks ahead in that way, too many unknowns. Fingers crossed whatever I’m doing I’ll still be blogging and travelling, ideally a bit more than now.
